Big Tree Planting Day

Big Tree Planting Day

Get some fresh air and help support Biodiversity on Blythe Hill Fields – we have 200 native tree whips to plant, which will add food for wildlife – and foragers – and enable us to create a new ‘hazel coppice’ zone.

The trees we are planting are all water tolerant varieties, including Hazel, Alder, Elder, Dogwood and Crab Apple, so over time they will help to reduce the risk of flooding, as well as soak up some of the standing water in the Fields during our boggy winters.

Our Hazel trees can be pruned in regular five year cycles, giving the Friends a sustainable resource for creating fencing posts and other wood products for decades to come.

Please dress up warm and bring gardening gloves, spades, kneeling pads, along with the whole family.

We’ll be serving tea, coffee and biscuits at around noon.
