A new strategy for Blythe Hill Fields

Hello everyone, we hope you are well, in general but also at the moment especially.

While it is difficult to have any short-term certainty in the current climate, we have continued to plan the future of how we will act as a group representing the best interests of Blythe Hill Fields.

With this in mind, the Committee is very proud to present the Friends of Blythe Hill Fields’ strategy and work plan for 2020/21 and beyond, which you can read below.

As ever, this group relies on the time and dedication of a team of volunteers - if you want to join us in a general capacity or to deliver a specific project (as detailed below or your own brainchild) please do get in touch.

Many thanks

Tim Part, FoBHF Chair

A strategy for 2020 and beyond & our current work plan

About the strategy

This is a new strategy to help the Friends group achieve its objectives for the rest of the year and beyond.

It's worth noting that it isn't radical - most (but not all) of the activities are already being discussed, planned or carried out by the Friends. However, we did lack a framework for how we think about what we should be doing to make the Fields the best that they can be.

This new way of thinking about how we manage the Fields will help in three ways:

  1. Enabling new ideas: it makes the group's purpose clearer, focuses everyone's mind, and allows people to own projects that are close to their heart

  2. Improving our processes: it will be the basis for our meeting agendas and progress tracking

  3. Providing accountability: it will frame the way we report on our activities and provides consistency as the years pass and as the Friends committee changes.

Most importantly, it can (and should) evolve - if you have any ideas, please do let us know.

The strategy

The strategy consists of the overarching aim of the Friends group, supported by three areas of focus and one cross-cutting theme.

Work plan 2020/21

We have used this framework to focus our thinking on the work we are currently undertaking, and the work that we plan to do in the future.

In each of the areas we have mapped out the activities we undertake every year, those we think we can definitely deliver in 2020/21 (extended an extra year due to lost time during Covid-19), projects that we may have time for but are not certain that we can deliver this year, and the key questions that will inform our outlook for the next 5 years. This work plan will be updated every year following the AGM.
